EDP Role Call!

To those who do not know me, my name is Nicholas Renard; I am the co-owner and principle architect at Cote Renard Architecture. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2002 and moved to Jacksonville three years ago. As of June 1st, I have taken over the role of EDP (Emerging Design Professional) President from Jeremiah Russell.

The driving force of this email is to see who is still out there!

I understand that times have been difficult over the last couple years and there has been a lot of turnover at firms and some firms don’t exist at all anymore. Some of the emails on the EDP directory may be ghosts, others may be still active. I need to find out who is and still wants to be active. So please send me a quick email back, nrenard@coterenard.com, if this message finds its way to your inbox and if you are interested in being part of the EDPs. If I do not hear from you, you will not be included on future emails.

I want to bring the EDPs back. I know times are still difficult, but it is important to remain active. Jeremiah tried different activities to help get involvement up, some things worked, others did not. If you have any suggestions or aspects of EDP that you would like to see, please feel free to include your thoughts and ideas in your response email.

I am working to get better involvement from the board and other members of the AIA. The architecture community is important and I feel we can make steps to gain what was lost over the last few years. I am game planning for the rest of the summer and hope to start activities back up in the fall.

2010 EDP-Jax Sustainable Shed Design Competition

The deadline has passed and entries are in.  Results for this year's EDP-Jax design competition will be posted by Friday, May 21, 2010 and will also be on display at the 2010 AIA Jacksonville Design Awards Gala that evening at the Main Library.  You can get tickets via the AIA Jacksonville website, under calendar of events.
Thanks to all those who submitted entries this year.  We are all very excited about this competition and hope to have more like it in the future.  Stay tuned for the winners!

The 2010 EDP-Jax Sustainable Shed Competition has been added to the list at Bustler.net.

EDP-Jax is proud to announce it's yearly design competition, the Sustainable |shed|.  This year's competition is open to all EDP members, AAIA members, interns and Architects in their first ten years of practice within the state of Florida.
In today's economy, many are finding it necessary to work from home or start a home based business but may lack the space and/or privacy necessary to have a home office.  The |shed| is a perfect solution to live/work entrepreneurs in a down economy.
The |shed| is to be designed as a completely sustainable office shed on a typical residential lot, we're seeking to show people what is possible with today's technology in the area of Sustainable and Modern design.  We aim to show that High Design and Sustainable design can be affordable and fit within any existing urban fabric to provide reasonable and beautiful solutions for today's burgeoning entrepreneurs.

[POD] Competition/Exhibit

First let me thank everyone who came out last night in support of EDP-Jax and our first competition of the year, the [pod] competition.  It was a great event in a new downtown space, LIT (thanks to Nick Renard for getting us in touch with Dustin over there at 11 Ocean Street).  Congratulations to all the entrants in the competition.  The work shown was very creative and exciting.  Special congratulations to our top 3:

Jeremiah's entry will be constructed and used at our future events, including the Design Awards Gala coming up in May during Architecture Week.  The top 3 entries are below and congratulations again to all those who participated in the competition and a big thank you to all who came out in support of EDP-Jax!

[POD] Competition Deadline

The deadline to register for the [POD] competition is this coming Monday.  If you haven't yet registered and want to participate, please go to the AIA Jacksonville website calendar of events and sign up.  It's a fun little competition and the winner gets to see their design built and put on display at this year's Architecture Week Awards Gala in May.
The exhibit will be at LIT next Wednesday during ArtWalk starting at 6pm.  We hope you'll join us!

[POD] Competition/Exhibit

Today we're launching the [POD] Competition, our first competition of 2010.  The purpose of this design competition is to create a form in/on which to display AIA/EDP entries for our annual awards gala and design competitions.  The objective is to create a portable exhibit display that can be reused for the various events EDP hosts throughout the year.  Entries will be judged primarily on constructibility, portability and overall design intent.  The winning entry will be constructed by EDP and used at the annual Architecture Week Gallery in May as well as at this year's AIA Florida Convention in Jacksonville this August.  For the full competition rules and guidelines click here.

Registration will begin today on the AIA Jacksonville website.  Registration will close February 28th, 2010 and all entries are due to Nick Renard at his office no later than March 2nd, 2010. 

First Happy Hour

Our first Architect's Happy Hour was a mild success, but worry not, you can come out to this months' Happy Hour, at Mark's, on the 16th.  Keep an eye on the events sidebar for other upcoming events and competitions.  Thanks to everyone who came out and we hope to see all of you and more next time.

Architects Happy Hour

EDP-Jax is bringing back a long gone Jacksonville tradition.  Every third Tuesday of the month we'll be hosting an Architects Happy Hour.  This is for all Architects and Designers in Jacksonville to come out, have a drink on us and chill with their peers at a hip downtown bar - Mark's.  So come relax with your fellow Architects and have your first drink on us.
This will be a regular monthly happy hour event, so if you miss the first one, don't worry, you can catch us next month same time same place.
